Phillies versus Mets

November 2, 2008

Tags: Get a life Mets fans...

If you believe NY sports radio, all the Phillies did was trash talk the Mets after their victory, which was far from the truth -- a few comments were made, off hand remarks -- no big deal -- and yet...

The bottom line New York fans is this -- both the Mets and Yankees think it's their right to the best players money can buy -- they feel entitled to get whomever they want.

I once felt sorry for the Mets, even rooted for them against the Yankees in the 2000 series. In NY, the Mets are second class citizens and have an inferiority complex, in the very same way, the rest of the league feels torward this city -- certainly the Phillies and Tampa Bay have no serious means to compete for top free agents this winter -- they never do.

For me, Billy Wagner says it all -- the Phillies were willing to pay Wagner what he deserved. We needed him to compete, we rescued him from Houston -- but the Mets overpaid for him and Billy was gone. That's the real reason why there's a rivalry.

You represent the excesses of an era that wrecked the world, you're spoiled brats -- listen to the talk now -- CC, Manny, last year Santana -- but for one year at least, all your money couldn't buy you into the playoffs, and that's what makes this year's victory so sweet.

Next year -- we can only be assured of one thing -- both the Mets and Yankees will field on paper the best teams money can buy -- how that translates over a season, as we seen over and over, is anyone's guess.
